The Samsung Caliber (SCH-R860) replaces the discontinued Samsung Finesse (SCH-R810).  From my end user non-technical prospective (from seeing a CNET video) the Caliber seems to running a updated version of the software that the Finesse has.  I'm willing to bet that the internal hardware is not all that different, guess we'll find out when someone takes apart the Caliber.  It probably has the software update that the Finesse deserved.

On second thought... I don't that many people own this phone, and those that might have the insight and knowledge are tooooo busy to stop what they are doing in there life and help demanding unappreciative end users like me, that will only demand more and complain if any assistance is given!   Grin

Well, all it takes to screw us over is one little bit shift, but yes it is possible. I guess the Fin has a "bad name."

Since several years Samsung and other OEMs use "same Software"...

Problem is to transfer/port to other device...

As such Settings are spread over whole Firmware...
Display Settings for instance...

If Display is from other manufacturer or bigger/smaller... Screenresolution, Color Depth... etc.
Sometimes it is possible... but Screen is BLACK you can't see anything. As Calibration Data are not compatible...  Undecided

Qualcomm deliver Software called AMSS... running on their Chipsets... OEM adjust AMSS stuff... but in theory it is same since many years.  Grin

If you change for instance Screensaver or Wallpaper in Windows 7... it is NOT Windows 8.

On mobile devices their are several PROTECTIONS against easy Operation System change... called simple Bootloader.

Bootloader (their are more then 1 in an chain...)
In Bootloader are the important Data to load AMSS (Firmware/OS)...

Bootloader prevent Download of not allowed Software...

Firmware and Settings are very complex to modify easily... If someone can do this.
He most can write their own complete Firmware... work or worked for mobile manufacturer...

What normal user can do is. Buy new handset.  Lips sealed

Otherwise you need YEARS to Reverse Engineering Firmware...

Best Regards
