I recently noticed that all the people who claim youtube works on the finesse post make those posts for the very first time. I've been on this forum for a really long time and none of the regulars are making these discoveries. Just brand new members on their very first posts. if you ask me its just a hoax. its someone..or some people trying to get a little attention. Dont be fooled.
By the way.. i called metropcs again yesterday and the tech told me the phone was not designed to support youtube videos on metro's browser so hence the error message. She said even if it seems like its going to play it'll probably stop after a while.
I also just read somewhere that the phone is being discontinued. At this point i suggest if u're looking for a online video streaming phone to cut your losses and move on.The Finesse is NOT that phone.
So until ybom (or any of the older members with more than 1 previous post) tells me the finesse now streams youtube..i'd give the whole youtube thing a rest.
p.s...to the guy who supposedly posted the youtube video of the finesse supposedly streaming youtube..i'm mad you chose the darkest spot you could to make that video. It was so dark we couldnt tell if it was the finesse at all and certainly couldnt see the "metropcs" brand on it either. thanks for trying tho.
Goodluck people. Roll Eyes

It was me that made the video, and it is dark because for some reason when I turned on the light you wouldn't be able to see the screen that well, it would get way to bright.  The video is very real, and there is no reason for me to post a fake video, you tell me what other phone looks exactly like that when on the internet and I will post another video with better lighting.  Your phone most likely needs to be updated for it to work with YouTube, but I assure you...it works.

Better yet, here is ANOTHER video of someone using YouTube, the video tells you how to upload videos TO YouTube through the phone, BUT if you skip to closer to the end you will see the person using the Finesse to play the video directly from YouTube.

The fact is, you CAN watch YouTube videos on your Samsung Finesse, try going to the store and asking them to upgrade it or something, someone already posted that their phone would not run YouTube, but after going to MetroPCS and asking them to upgrade the software, he was able to use YouTube perfectly fine after that.

Yea there must really be some type of special upgrading going on that i dont know about. Cause i still get the same result of error trying to play videos "Unsupported file type". But i'm to the point where i basically just stopped caring. So yea.

ok..why do these metro ppl keep treating me like i'm crazy when i talk about the finesse nd youtube  Roll Eyes ?? it happened again today at the store. the lady told me flat out youtube doesnt work on the finesse. point. blank. period. when i insisted nd told her about this forum she pulled me to the side and addressed me like i was some kind of retard. according to her, there's no software, no upgrade..nothing they can do. so i'll just settle for the unsupported video file message...  Undecided

It's metro's fault. Next time you talk to someone at the store tell them that the nintendo DS can do youtube, and the finesse is leaps and bounds technically superior as far as hardware goes. It is either metropcs, samsung, or communities like ours that will get that to happen.

Also you may just need to find one of the proper video formats that are set up right on youtube, save the link and show it to them. Tell them that you can watch half the videos, and you want all of them to work or you won't give them the tens of thousands of dollars of you as a future customer much longer because Sprint has a sweet deal going on, or something. It's not fair that they have another phone that vastly surpasses the finesse simply because someone was lazy when they first created the programming for the phone.

I think youtube specifically uses 3g (3gp, 3g2) container-files. Unfortunately, no one has properly tested the limitations of the (older like mine) Finesse's streaming web video, so we don't know exactly what format it has to be in.

.3gp 3GPP standard, GSM Network, Video: MPEG-4, H.263, Audio: AAC, AMR
.3g2 3GPP2 standard, CDMA2000 Network, Video: MPEG-4, H.263, Audio: AAC, AMR, QCELP.

This means that one or more of the following do not have codecs properly installed on the finesse for streaming: mp4, h.263, aac, amr, or ocelp. We need to test video streams that use both 3gp and 3g2 files that contain all variants:

1. 3gp; mpeg-4, aac
2. 3gp; mpeg-4, amr
3. 3gp; h.263, aac
4. 3gp; h.263, amr
5. 3g2; mpeg-4, aac
6. 3g2; mpeg-4, amr
7. 3g2; mpeg-4, ocelp
8. 3g2; h.263, aac
9. 3g2; h.263, amr
10. 3g2; h.263, ocelp

Whichever of the above 10 do not work will give a lot of insight. It may also be a good idea to test different file sizes and playback size after the codecs are confirmed - does a 100 mb or 1080p stream work?

Unless this has already been done a long time ago by the likes of xboxhacker.

is it more of a stretch to try and upgrade the browser firmware? i talked to another rep over the phone and he confirmed that the newer models have an upgrade in the browser.

I've had my Finesse for nearly a year now, and I've off and on been checking to see if I could get Youtube videos to load and checking these forums from time to time to see if people had been able to get it to work on their phones.  Earlier this evening I decided to try again, and it works!  Something I noticed is that the file name extension that shows when the video is loading is .3gp, and it didn't used to be that.  The playback can be a bit choppy at times, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.  I have always liked my phone, just disappointed that I couldn't stream videos on it.  I really LOVE it now!

I will say, though, that other video streaming sites do not appear to be working yet.  I've tried videos on MSN, Yahoo, and Google with no luck.  Still, having Youtube working makes up for that.

I am in the Atlanta area and am on Metro PCS.  To anybody else in this area and on this service plan, are you guys seeing the same thing?

This might be a youtube update, now that I think about it. It could have been either way really.
