I have recently plunged head first into the world of Final Cut Studio 2 at work, and I was wondering if there are members of this forum who are Cutters, too. This topic is open to FCP tips and tricks, complaints, work-arounds and general Final Cut and Apple discussion.
I have been a PC all of my life, but recently I am now a Mac, too. My only prior video editing experience was Vegas and Camtasia.
I work for a company making PC-based simulation software for the military. I started as Quality Assurance Specialist, then expanded into Scenario Building (level design) for marketing. That includes making machinima of our products for presentations with clients. I am still learning the ropes, but due to deadlines I am learning fast.

I have a weird work flow. Final Cut 6 does not like FRAPS (benchmarking, screen capture, and real-time video capture). When rendering a 10 second clip, it renders all frames in the first 3 seconds, then the remaining 7 seconds are black. Imagine what it does to a 10 minute long trailer. I have to take the FRAPS encoded .avi and send it through Compressor as Apple ProRes 422 .mov, edit in Final Cut, then send it back to Compressor as either a H.264 .mov or .mp4.
I also am getting used to Mac OS. (Funny, I don't even know the OS version. I'm an uber Mac noob)
At first I thought Expose was fluff like Aero in Vista. I use it ALL THE TIME! I have duel monitors (23" and 30" Cinema Displays) and the extra screen space makes Expose a valuable tool, especially with FCP and Compressor open at the same time.
Now I am starting to rant. Ima finish mah beer and play Assassin's Creed.
