Some tools we might could use if we can figure out what to do with the finished programs.

For instance, Dawn of the Fly: Flashlite Version would be an awesome thing to put on the Fin.

It would seem we dont need the Brew SDK... just the Brew MP SDK..

Developer Workflow

Here’s how the integration works: Using the Adobe Extension Manager, a Brew MP SDK extension installs itself as a post-processor to Adobe Flash Professional CS3. Developers create a new Flash project, selecting a BREW template in the appropriate screen size, color depth, frame rate and ActionScript version. They then author their Flash movie, including asset libraries, animation timelines and ActionScript.

BREW MP workflow

To see their Flash movie running in BREW, they publish the SWF file, selecting Brew MP AppCreator as the publishing format and the target version of AMC on which the file will run. This starts the post-processing step, which bundles the SWF inside a BREW application shell, generates supporting files, and then plays the SWF on the device or in the Simulator.

At this point, developers have everything needed to test and debug the Flash asset as a BREW application, without writing a single line of BREW code.

MORE INFO:
SIG files

SIG files are device-specific signature files that are required for each device you are using for your application development. These files must be obtained from QUALCOMM and are good for 90 days. After 90 days, the signature file expires and QUALCOMM must issue a new signature file.

Only one SIG file is required per device. However, because each individual application requires its own corresponding SIG file, you make a copy of the original SIG file and rename it to match the name of the application you have created. Remember that the SIG file must reside in the same folder as the MOD file, the application file for the BREW device.

You must be an authenticated BREW developer to access the signature generation utility on the BREW website.

NOTE:
SIG files are required for testing applications on devices, but they are not required for testing using the BREW Simulator.
To obtain a SIG file:

   1. Go to the BREW website and navigate to the page that contains the link to the QUALCOMM web-based test signature generator.
   2. Select BREW Testing Generator.
   3. Enter your BREW developer user name and password. <~~hack their site...LOL
   4. In the ESN field, type 0x<ESN Number> where the ESN number is the number you find under the device battery when you lift it up.
   5. Click Generate and wait for the Download Signature link to appear.
   6. Download the signature and save the file; it will be required for all testing on the device.

Info Overload! Just kidding. Good stuff!

So we're going to be developing flash stuff for brew I assume (better'nuttin). I'm wondering what limitations we're going to have using this method. I mean obviously we can make games, but I think a flash browser is asking too much.

However, using BREW Flash isn't going to be easy. I found a really engrossing discussion on the whole sig issue. May want to skim it.

Another option popped up on Page 6. We may not need to worry about any of it. Less useful programs like tip calculator might be able to be overwritten, so we might could develop a small flash, java, or file launcher as a bridge through that method.

Could it also be possible to grab brew packages and clone them with only a name change? This combined with the above method might be enough to get around every limitation of BREW.

1.)  Adobe Flash Documentation http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00004727.html

2.)  BREW Documentation http://www.it.iitb.ac.in/~it601/resources/BREW/brew.pdf

3.)  Install File https://brewx.qualcomm.com/bws/content/gi/products/sdk/3.1/en/3.1.4.16/web_install/install.htm

Flash® Lite™ 2.1 for BREW®

Devices extends Flash to the growing BREW platform from Qualcomm, creating an exciting ecosystem for selling and distributing Flash based content to handsets enabled for BREW. Using the latest Flash development tools, developers can create content and applications that are offered over the air to consumers on handsets in North America

P.S. This software is nolonger handled by Adobe.
