i live in nyc, i bought the finesse when it first came out. the first question i asked was if youtube worked. they told me it did. i purchased the phone. realized youtube was not working. called 611 they said they need to reset my phone. this was done three times. i was assured by the representatives that youtube works. i asked to talk to her supervisor, twenty minutes later she comes back and says my supervisor is unavailable. she said if you want to make a complaint go to a coorprate store. i feel like metro pcs us taking advantage of us the customers, lying to us about features so they can sell us the phone. half the stuff done work. we are on the shitty cdma network. i feel like metropcs should offer a rebate to everyone who purchased this phone for missrepresenting their product. also its crazy they are not updating the network till january 2010.

The told me that same bullshit cause I went in the store asking that same question. To find out after purchasing this dry as phone with touch feature that it didnt. This phone has nothing spectacular going on about it. Infact this is the worst phone that I've brought over $300 I'm feeling bad cause I could have used this to buy more clothes for my daughter or brought me a new pair of Prada's. I know the blackberry users arent going through this bullshit.

I, too, was quite disappointed to find no internet video capability; I toyed with the idea of purchasing an HTC Touch Diamond instead.   But then I realized that you never get a perfect phone.  The HTC would have left me missing some of the cool Finesse features that I enjoy.

So I just decided to enjoy the phone for what it has.  The whole cellphone industry has us all by the short and curlies- either we pay a large sum upfront for the hardware or we are locked into paying more per month.

I hope the good people of this forum can figure out how to get some internet video capability and share with us- that would be phenomenal!

All of us could boycott paying our bills until they give us the method to allow the Finesse to play internet video content.  Imagine if they lost all that revenue at once?

You see, this is what is supposed to happen on this forum. You come to this subforum and do exactly what nyprboi07 did instead of posting this to another topic. Great job!

In addition to what finesseFlorida is saying, I think everyone who visits here should realize two things.

One. The Finesse has a relatively large formal community focused on modding it here. You don't see that in other metro phones, at least not as organized as we are right now. You definitely don't see that in other pay and play phones for other carriers such as for boost, tracfone, virgin or cricket.

Two. Our probable release date is probably much sooner than what metro's would be if they did give a formal release date and had promised us java functionality when it was released. We are not doing this by the book in any way shape or form. However, we have the gift of zero signed commitment. Not a single one of us has signed on the dotted line! This gives us as users a diaper full of stank power. However, metro didn't sign a contract with us either, so cutting our line if they all of a sudden see us using youtube more is something to consider.

I will say this. You might want to reconsider what you're doing if you bought the Finesse to watch youtube. Why? Metro is known for it's 1x service. The Finesse is $350. You can buy a Sprint, AT&T, TMobile, or Verizon data card and a $200 netbook that can playback youtube for you. The data plan isn't that much either. And email is free mms. You now have the limitation of no phone, right? Nope. MagicJack is $20 a year ($40 in canada, and if you have bad juju with them there are many other voip services available for free or negligible prices). GPS? There's software for that like NavMii.

And really, you have no excuse if you bought the Finesse expecting Metro to be Walmart on returns. Heck, Walmart bought me a new pair of pants last month after some of their $1 clear nail polish exploded and destroyed my nice black/offblack striped pants. Anyways, with attempt to stay on topic, all you really needed to do was talk to another customer or two about how honest Metro customer service is. I think the effort to find someone would have been well worth the $398 investment. Rather than believe the list of features the marketing dept put together for the Fin.

Sadly, it's a good point that we can not be trusting consumers.  In a true free market with healthy competition... oh never mind...

lol oh well

While I'm proud of you guys for sticking up for the Finesse, I find your response of "Go get a $200 laptop if you want YouTube" a bit immature.  In today's society, streaming videos with your phone is almost a given (ecspecially if you forked over $350), and not to mention the topic creator specifically stated he asked the Metro employee if he could watch YouTube and the employee said yes.

I must admit, like the topic creator, I feel a little underwhelmed with the Finesse thus far, and obviously people who buy the Finesse Touch Screen phone plan to do a little more PDA'ing than talking on the phone, so one would expect this phone to be a little advanced and capapable of download .flv files or even streaming them.  If this were any other phone that "Why don't u buy a laptop?? logic would be nice, but come on, look at this big beautiful screen that practically goes to waste.

And for the record, if anyone here has ever had any other phone company besides Metro PCS, you would know that Metro has shady and unfair return policies.  Maybe it's the side effect of no contract service, but regardless, I wouldn't expect a Wal-Mart return policy I would expect something more like my old Verizon Return Policy which says "You got 30 days, don't like it?  Take it back and get a new one!" (Granted, this was 2 years ago).  How can u really test a phone in under an hour?

Just my 2 cents.

I think your 2 cents is worth more than 2 cents!

Touche on the laptop point, especially about what's generally considered acceptable in the mobile market. However, you touched yourself back on the point about metro's rep, right? I think the laptop config is extremely viable, though. I was just putting it out there for the potential onlooker to consider it instead of going through the drama we are.

I think the inventor of the cell phone, Captain Kirk, would brit shicks if he saw the price of a cell phone today. He'd say something like "You've got to be kidding me. I get intergalactic coverage for free on mine!"
