lol whats up. ill make this my intro post...just got my phone three days ago and its all good =]

BUT this whole 3gp format is really throwing me off now >=O

So we all know this thing wont load our youtube videos giving us the reason of "Unsupported Video File" which should be the 3gp format.

Most phones if not all support this video format! so i asked a friend of mine to send me a random video of anything, she sent, i received.

BAM 3gp video file (not surprised) load it up...plays? Yep it played...so whats up with that?!

So i said "hmm maybe this phone just wont stream the 3gp format but maybe it will play it once fully downloaded or on memory card."

So i got a video, converted to 3gp and dragged that to my mem card. Attempted to play and... Wanna take a guess? Nope did not work.

So why am i able to play videos sent to me in 3gp file format (I even saved the attachment so it is now on my memory card and im sure its a 3gp file and it plays fine all the time)

Is it that the phone will only play those short clips on 3gp format?

Thanks for this experience. To me it's looking more and more like glitchy software and implementation errors. For instance the browser supports streaming protocol but doesn't support the streams themselves.

Your experience with 3gp on the sd card is interesting. I've never seen this before. Maybe you accidentally converted it to another 3gp format, which plagued some of the older video formats (like mov). Think of it as someone trying to play a DVD on a CD player, or even a VCD on most American DVD players. Try another converter program and see if you get the same error. If so, try to resize it to 400x240.

The grapevine says that a new firmware update is coming. Maybe things will be a lot better after this. If it fixes the streaming issue but disallows us making our own wallpapers and ringtones I won't be surprised but I will avoid doing it as long as possible.

Hey thanks for the response!

I haven't heard anything about that update , care to link me?

Also I've been playing with  BitPim's settings to try to read the filesystem on the phone , no luck.

GOt the COM port set up correctly and attempted "other CDMA phone" option as well as other Samsung models but again no luck.

Also, whats with the finesse not having a "Themes" section? Sad

Awesome research! Just get back on the horse and keep trying.

I think the free ringtones and wallpapers makes up for it.

the 3gp format is glitchy. try converting it to 3g2 and use a divx codec. this will be 100 % more reliable than 3gp

apparantly the 3gp format is not fully supported or it might be the type of codec used for the 3gp format.

yep that sounds more like it. i understand the 3g2 format works that isn't what im trying to get to work, just the 3gp playing in a video message and not in the browser was what threw me off. thanks for your response!

So you're saying some 3gp's play on youtube?

no youtube accepts 3g2 and 3gp for uploads.

I think he has a youtube extractor that pulls the video down to the phone  in 3gp format.  if this is the case he will have to go through the hassle of coping it to the pc converting it then placing it back on the phone.  in which I think would be a major hassle. just to view a youtube vid.  as you cant just upload codecs on to the phone.

im not sure of any workarounds yet without hacking the firmware to give a choice to save in 3gp or 3g2
