inside of your samsung finesse, then here 's how to do it & what to use below-->
1st) I ripped a whole dvd to mp4 using a program named dvd fab, 2nd) then I intern took a program called Total Video Converter  & encoded it to .3gp & (or) .3gp2 because on my Samsung Finesse that is the only video format that I have got to work & it works very well. I put stargate atlantis first dvd on it & it looked good & even sounded good. Total Video Converter is the only one that I found that actually worked for the phone & a lot of people were writing good things about  Total Video Converter because I tryed around 5 other ones & they did not work, so if you are looking for an encoder use (  Total Video Converter   ) & if you want to rip a dvd to a video file before dropping it into Total Video Converter , then go get dvd fab, I promise you all that you will be very happy for doing it, but know that both of these are not free, but you can find them on mininova , you know torrent downloads & if you do not know what that means, you may as well goto the sites of the software makers & purchase them, all you have to do is google dvd fab & then Total Video Converter. Infact here are the links 1st dvdfab  http://www.dvdfab.com/  & then for Total Video Converter goto http://www.effectmatrix.com/buynow.htm  or the main site at http://www.effectmatrix.com/  oh & if you want both programs for free, then goto this link I put them together for you all in one & also I included full version of Winrar zip file ( JUst follow the direction on how to install in the txt files inside folders.
Here's the link below. Enjoy People  Wink Wink

When you rip the DVD do you use "full disc?"

And then, when you use Total Video, you convert ALL the video files?

Or do you merge all the video files into one file then convert it using Total Video?

[Forgive the noob questions, I'm not great with this video stuff.  I only know how to use DVD Fab to burn/copy DVD's]

Scratch that...  I figured it out.

I used DVDFab (which I already had) to rip the DVD to my computer.
I then used Total Video to convert the files from the video_ts folder to 3GP (or whatever that video format is)
Then I used Total Video to merge all the 3GP files into one movie file.

However, the video quality kinda sucked...  And, I don't know how it happened, but the movie I ripped (Gran Torino) was all in Spanish!  I'm going to have to mess with some of the settings and get this working properly.  Almost there.

I think I may try MP4 format and see if that works.  I saw another thread with people mentioning that format working for the fin.

Steps to getting your samsung movie converted. note: only for downloaded movies or files

1. Get DVDdab version 6 (not sure if it will work on free version)
2. open dvdfab left panel will have dvd to dvd dvd to mobile and ext
3. Click on file to Mobile then click on cell phone
4. Pick your movie file you want on there let it generate then don't click start yet.
5. on the right hand side you will see a tab called profile standard will be blackberry.storm
6. when doing this u will see a down tab go ahead and pick samsung D600 because it formats 3gp witch the video needs to be in.
7. click next then it will say u are going to creat file to mobile click yes then just wait.
8. when done go ahead and get the file from your cellphone folder in dvdfab and drag to your movie folder in phone then wait tell done safely remove the device and u have your movie.
